Meet the Coaches
Coach Doug McGough has been a CT resident for over 40 years. He attended and ran for Masuk High School in Monroe, CT, and later went on to run for the Division 1 program at Central Connecticut State University. His expertise was in the 5000 and 10,000 meter events while at Central. He brings knowledge of many different levels of running, and has trained for events from the 400 meter dash up to a full marathon.
In addition to running, Coach McGough has been working as a teacher in Cromwell for a tenure of over 25 years. He is now an Instructional Technology Coach for the district and also teaches a class in News Broadcasting at the high school. McGough began in Cromwell as an elementary teacher working in both 3rd and 4th grade. His goal is to bring Cromwell Cross Country back to the prominence it once had as a perennial power in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Coach Joe Asmus has been a CT resident for over 20 years. He attended Sheehan High School in Wallingford, CT, where he played soccer and ran track. He ran in all distance events, but specialized in the 800, 1000, and 1600 meters. He attended Central Connecticut State University, where he was named Major of the Year and Outstanding Future Professional in his field of Physical Education and Health. Coach Asmus' main role is to help create and develop strength training and conditioning programs to help improve speed and reduce injuries.
In addition to cross country, Coach Asmus is a Physical Education and Health teacher at Cromwell High School, and coaches Track and Field in the winter and spring. His goal is to have all Cromwell Cross Country runners break their personal records, whether it is on the course or the weight room.
The Cromwell Cross Country coaches would invite everyone to attend all meets scheduled here at home. Please come and support Cromwell’s athletes as they run their way back to a winning tradition.
